Viral Marketing Research- Deadpool
Viral marketing is a method of marketing whereby information is shared by an encouraged audience about a company via the internet. This method of marketing is used widely in cinema to advertise films, which engage and include the audience. There have been many of successful examples of films using viral marketing, in order to draw in large box office.
Deadpool is a good example of a film which had an effective viral marketing campaign that allowed the film to become the highest grossing R- rated film ever. This viral ad campaign involved many different physical advertisments in the forms of posters and billboards, to advertise the films 10th Febuary 2016 release. As it was released four days before valentines days, the film capitalised on this and created posters and billboards which advertised the film as a romantic film rather than the violant action comedy it actually was. This strategy was effective due to how it kept in character with the Deadpool character who himslef is a joker who doesnt take anything seriously and continuesly breaks the fourth wall.
Other marketing plans were also used building to the ilms release, for instance the actor Ryan Reynolds would act as the character Deadpool in interviews for the film and other humerous physical advertisements were created.
