Treatment

Title: 'Haunted'
Duration: 5 minutes.
Audience: We think our film will best suit audiences within the 15-35 year old age bracket, however we still think some people above this age bracket would enjoy our film. This is because thriller films often attract a wide range of audiences due to their intensiveness and excitement it brings. We especially think our film will attract older teenagers as the characters in our film are mostly going to be in that age bracket, therefore the audience will be able to relate to the characters, which will engage them in the film more. Another reason why our film will attract a diverse audience as the theme in it, someone dying, happens to everyone, therefore a lot of people will be able to relate to the film and engage in it, while also being drawn into the thrilling moments and tense scenes. Other films that our audience enjoy are the Scream franchise. These films are similar to our project as they both contain mystery and very tense sequences within them. Another similar film that our audience likes is 'When a Stranger Calls.' This film also belongs to the thriller/ horror genre like our film. These films have suspenseful scenes contained in the film, therefore making our film appropriate for our intended audience. Due to this we can conclude that our film is the type of film our audience would find interesting and engaging.
Certificate: 15. This is due to the fact that in our film the ideas it contains mey too dark, graphic or disturbing for a younger audience and therefore would not be suitable for a younger audience. this is why we have chosen a 15 certifacte, as we believe that an audinece of 15 year olds and above ar emature enough to view the film and enjoy all the elements that make it up.
Distributor: We have decided that YouTube is the best choice for a distributor for our film. This is because it is a very popular social media site, that allows the content creators to upload to the website, and all they have to do is create a Google account. YouTube is also a popular website, as it has been live since 2005, and is mostly viewed by young adults in the 18-34 age range, according to official YouTube statistics, which is the potentional target audience of our own film. When content creators upload to YouTube, they can also monetise their views through Google's AdSense, which allows the creator to make a small amount of money, through ads, when someone clicks on the video. This is a good choice for small film makers, who won't be able to get an income from the films they make.

Synopsis: A woman wakes up every morning and sees a silhouette of a family member at the end of her bed every morning. As weeks pass she begins to see her more regularly, for example when she goes shopping. Then at the end of the film there is a twist, it turns out that her family member isn't the one who is dead but in fact, it is herself. She is just simply observing the lives of her loved ones.
The film will start with numerous elliptical edits, showing days passing as she sees her family member over and over again (the camera will pan over her diary, revealing her name which is part of revealing the ending). This will result in seeing her extremely distressed more and more as it continues. As more time passes, the sights of the family member becomes more vivid as she sees what happened to the family member (however it's actually what happened to her) in more and more detail. This continues for a while until the revelation of how she was murdered is shown through a vision. The women will be stabbed as the onlooker (who is actually the girl but the girl thinks it's her family member) watches, this will be shot cutting off the top of their heads in the shot so the identities are not revealed, maintaining the mystery and confusion for the ending revelation. As the women see's him/her more and more, her behaviour starts to become extremely abnormal and the people around her start suspecting she is going crazy and needs professional help. This is portrayed as the women listens in to their conversations, she is not actually involved in them, however the conversations won't specifically be stating that she is crazy, it will just be inferred. The women then hears the family member talking to her repeating her name and talking about the murder in her bedroom. The family member is actually just trying to find peace by talking to something of hers. At the end, the family member is shown stood at the girl’s grave mourning her, the grave stone shows her name and a picture of her, revealing to the girl and the audience that she is the one who's actually dead and her family member was the one watching.
Suggested Elements: The beginning of our film, is similar to that of 'Groundhog Day,' where by the same moments are relived over and over again, being repeated, almost showing that there is a never ending cycle that the character is stuck in. This looping narrative is reflected in the opening of our film, as the main protagonist is seeing the silhouette of family members every morning, at the end of her bed, which haunts the main character, seeming to be never ending.
